Skinny Jeans Cut Off Blood Supply - Killed The Woman Almost

A 35-year-old woman in Australia collapsed after the skinny jeans she was wearing cut off the blood supply to her calf muscles. She was forced to crawl to seek help, prompting health experts to warn people not to wear it.
No one was around, it was dark, and she spent hours lying on the ground before eventually crawling to the side of the road and hailing a cab to take her to hospital. “When she arrived, she had massive, really severe, swelling of both calves to the extent we were unable to take her jeans off without cutting them,” according to Thomas Kimber, a consultant neurologist and co-author of the Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry journal article.
The doctors at the local hospital found she had damaged muscle and nerve fibres in her lower legs as a result of prolonged compression while squatting, made worse by her very tight jeans. “She couldn’t move her ankles or toes properly and had lost feeling in her lower legs and feet,” Kimber said.
The AAP news agencyreported that the blood supply had been reduced to her leg muscles, causing them to swell and the adjacent nerves to compress.
The woman spent hours squatting while helping a relative move house. Her skinny jeans felt increasingly tight and uncomfortable, but she did not pay attention at it and later went for a walk. Kimber told, “She was having trouble lifting her feet while walking, soon it got so bad and she eventually fell and was unable to get up again."
Kimber pointed that the case was a cautionary tale and people wearing skinny jeans should avoid squatting for long periods or wear something loose or with elasticity.
“She has fully recovered after being put on an intravenous drip and discharged after four days when she could walk unaided,” Thomas Kimber announced.
The case is reported in the Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery and Psychiatry.
